4 Healthy Summer Snacks to Keep You Cool
Looking for better snacking alternatives this summer? Here are some ideas to help keep you cool and are low-cost, easy to make, and most importantly, healthy and delicious!
1. Frozen Fruit
During the summer, there are many tasty fruits such as grapes, raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries that are in season and at their peak and are a great healthy choice when you feel the urge to snack.
To prepare the fruits, first, wash them and place on a baking sheet, then freeze for a couple of hours. The frozen fruits can either be stored in the freezer or emptied into a Ziplock bag for snacking on the go.
Larger fruits can also be enjoyed frozen. Simply cut into bite-size pieces and freeze. Once frozen, store them in a plastic container, for a quick and healthy sweet snack.
2. Banana Ice Cream with Just ONE Ingredient
Bananas are a healthy snack option also. They are fat-free and are a source of vitamins B6 and C, plus contain dietary fiber, and potassium. The vitamins and minerals contained in bananas can help with heart health, aid digestion, and provide energy.
To make ONE-Ingredient Banana Ice Cream, first, slice your bananas into approximately ¾ inch thick pieces and arrange on a baking sheet to freeze. Freeze for 3 to 4 hours and then put the slices into a blender. Blend the banana on a high-speed setting, until smooth, thick and creamy. This naturally sweet ice cream can be enjoyed immediately.
Some suggestions for additional ingredients to add to the ice cream before blending include peanut butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, and honey.
3. Frozen Yogurt Cubes
These small delicious bites are perfect for a quick cool-down treat. To make, take your favorite flavored yogurt and pour into an ice cube tray. Freeze until just hard enough to hold a toothpick – about an hour. Then add a toothpick to each cube. Once the yogurt is fully frozen, remove the cubes. As the yogurt melts in your mouth, you are sure to cool down quickly.
Alternatively, use natural Greek yogurt and add small pieces of fruit to make fruity, creamy ice cube bites.
4. Healthy Popsicles
First, blend your favorite summer fruits to make a smoothie, and then freeze in popsicle molds. These healthy popsicles can be enjoyed as an appetizing treat that will keep you cool during the summer. You can also add yogurt to your smoothie, which will make your popsicle extra creamy.
Similarly, use fresh fruit juice, such as pineapple, orange or watermelon and freeze for a more thirst-quenching experience.
